Gloucester Vision

“Excellence in care, as close to home as possible.”

This is our vision and whilst we are one of the largest units in the South West (with ~6500 deliveries per year) we want families to feel that they have a personalised level of care and support during their stay.

We have 28 cots, 10 of which are ITU/HDU and 14 Special care. We have a fantastic 4 bed transitional care suite which is located on our neonatal unit for continuity of care. We also have 2 parents’ bedrooms on the unit which can be used by parents when their baby is nearly ready for home; this is in addition to access to several rooms in Ronald MacDonald building on the hospital site.

Medically we have 5 full time Neonatal Consultants who attend 7 days a week and provide 24 hour cover. We have a separate neonatal middle grade rota which is partially staffed by 4 experienced ANNPs. We also have a full compliment of tier 1 Doctors.

Nursing; we have a dedicated Matron, plus 5 Band 7 nurses, and a large number of band 4-6 nurses. We have named nurses who support breast feeding, risk and education.

We are supported by some fantastic charities (Scoo-B-Doo and Pied piper) as well as regular funding raising initiatives from our parents. As a result, we are fortunate in having all the up to date equipment that we require.

We have a support group for Parents run by ex- parents but supported by a senior nurse from the unit the group is called HOPE
