How to access the unit

You can find the SCU on level 2 in the Ladywell Unit – just follow the signs. The unit is locked at all times. When visiting please ring the bell at the entrance and confirm your identity.  When the door is released for you please enter but DO NOT LET ANYONE IN BEHIND YOU or try to go in behind anyone else.

This is for your baby’s security, every person must be identity checked before they come in to the ward.  Please help us to keep the unit safe. 

SCU is along the corridor on the right by the first orange square on the floor. Please ring this bell and wait again for a second identity check.

Who to talk to about your babies care

Please ask the doctors and nurses any queries you have about your babies care, if they cannot answer your queries they will find someone who can.

Who to talk to if you have any concerns

Please inform the doctors and nurses of any concerns you may have and they will try and help.

There is a perinatal mental health service.  We can refer you or you can refer yourself by using the details below:

You can also contact PALS through the hospital, or speak to the ward manager or the BLISS champion who visits the unit on a Tuesday.

Talking to the medical team

The medical team are always nearby and can be called to the unit at any time.

Ward Rounds

Ward rounds happen every morning, but the doctors could speak to you another time of the day if you prefer.

Baby Rest Time

The nurse’s will speak to and make a plan of care with you. They will speak to you about minimal handling as well, which is good for your baby’s growth and development.
